A Brief Discussion on the Research of Ashwagandha

A new human clinical study uses a high-quality, patented ashwagandha extract, Witholytin, to evaluate its positive effects on fatigue and stress.
Researchers assessed the safety of ashwagandha and its effect on perceived fatigue and stress in 111 healthy men and women aged 40–75 years who experienced low energy levels and moderate to high perceived stress over a 12-week period. The study used a dose of 200 mg of ashwagandha twice daily.
Results showed that participants taking ashwagandha experienced a significant 45.81% reduction in global Chalder Fatigue Scale (CFS) scores and a 38.59% reduction in stress (perceived stress scale) compared to baseline after 12 weeks. .
Other results showed that physical scores on the Patient Reported Outcome Measurement Information System (PROMIS-29) increased (improved) by 11.41%, psychological scores on PROMIS-29 (improved) decreased by 26.30% and increased by 9 .1% compared to placebo. Heart rate variability (HRV) decreased by 18.8%.
The conclusion of this study shows that ashwagandha has the potential to support an adaptogenic approach, combat fatigue, rejuvenate, and promote homeostasis and balance.
Researchers involved in the study claim that ashwagandha has significant energizing benefits for middle-aged and older overweight people experiencing high levels of stress and fatigue.
A subanalysis was conducted to examine hormonal biomarkers in male and female participants. Blood concentrations of free testosterone (p = 0.048) and luteinizing hormone (p = 0.002) were significantly increased by 12.87% in men taking ashwagandha compared to the placebo group.
Given these results, it is important to further study the demographic groups that may benefit from taking ashwagandha, as its stress-reducing effects may vary depending on factors such as age, gender, body mass index status, and other variables.
“We are pleased that this new publication combines the evidence supporting Vitolitin with our growing body of evidence demonstrating the USP standardization of ashwagandha extract,” explained Sonya Cropper, executive vice president of Verdure Sciences. Cropper continues, “There is growing interest in ashwagandha, adaptogens, fatigue, energy and mental performance.”
Vitolitin is manufactured by Verdure Sciences and distributed in Europe by LEHVOSS Nutrition, a division of the LEHVOSS Group.
